Ran into an issue today that was different than conventional thinking.
vSphere 4.0 update 1 installation (244038)
Attempted to add an RDM of 30GB to a server for testing and the innocuous error of Test.vmdk is larger than the maximum size allowed. Okay, typically this would mean that the RDM is larger than the formatted VMFS3 Block size, but at 30 GB? I found this communities post outlining a method to add the RDM via powershell, which is cool in itself but the final post discusses the LUN being marked offline on the storage. Bingo! Looked on the EMC storage and sure enough every LUN that was created was offline.
